Location

The Virikkolampi lean-to is located about five kilometres south of Rovaniemi city centre, on the shore of Virikkolampi, south of Pöyliövaara.

The log-built lean-to overlooks Virikkolampi. It sits along the Virikkolampi trail in a scenic natural setting. Nearby you will also find a firewood shed and a dry toilet.

Access:

From Rovaniemi city centre, drive 3.9 km towards Ranua along Kajaanintie, then turn right onto Kemijoen Itäpuolentie and continue for about 300 m. From there, turn left to reach the Pöyliövaara parking area (approx. 150 m). From the parking area, the distance to the lean-to along the Virikkolampi trail is about 3.4 km.
You can also drive closer to the lean-to via Kotikairantie for 2.3 km to the Virikkolampi lean-to point. The parking area is on the right-hand side of the road.

By local bus:

During school summer holidays:

Bus line 7 runs on weekdays, and bus line 5P runs on weekdays and weekends to the stop Metsämuseontie I. From there, the distance to the lean-to is about 4.5 km via the nature trail and about 3.5 km via Kotikairantie.

Outside the school summer holiday season:

On weekdays, buses 3 and 6 run to the stop Ojanperä th. From there, the distance to the lean-to is about 4 km via the nature trail and about 3 km via Kotikairantie. On weekends, bus line 5P runs to the stop Metsämuseontie I, from where the distance to the lean-to is about 4.5 km via the nature trail and about 3.5 km via Kotikairantie.
